New ministers for the UK property industry

Prime minister Gordon Brown made a number of changes to his government recently, and there are some new faces involved in the property industry as a result.

John Healy has been named minister for housing, while Ian Austin has assumed the role of parliamentary undersecretary of state with responsibilities for the private rented sector.

Shahid Malik and Sarah McCarthy-Fry have also joined secretary of state John Denham's Communities and Local Government team.

Their work over the coming months is likely to cover all aspects of the housing industry, so homeowners such as people with mortgages for professionals will be affected by any decisions they make.

The Town and Country Planning Association welcomed the new ministers and called for "a new focus on the challenges of climate change, social justice and the acute housing shortages facing the nation today".

National Landlords Association chairman David Salusbury thanked the departing Iain Wright for his services to the private rented sector over the last two years.

Mortgages for professionals provides expert mortgage advice and is committed to represent the borrower not the lender on over 30,000 mortgage products for high earning clients.
