Mortgage expert requests more govt-run schemes
Catherine Hearnden, director of home loan advice group MyMortgageDirect, said that the existing schemes "work well".
The HomeBuy Scheme, which involves people part owning a property with their local council, before eventually taking full control of the mortgage, is one such initiative that has helped some first-time buyers get on the property ladder.
Reflecting on the current state of the housing market, she added: "Mortgages will be very affordable now, but it is [now more a case of] finding the deposit [to buy property]."
Earlier this week, the Council of Mortgage Lenders indicated that there was a 16 per cent monthly increase in the number of mortgages taken out for home purchases in April.
A total of 35,600 mortgages for home-buying were recorded during the month and there were 31,000 remortgages arranged.
Mortgages for professionals provides expert mortgage advice and is committed to represent the borrower not the lender on over 30,000 mortgage products for high earning clients.
