Home clearance sales ‘big help for FTBs’
Seema Shaha of Capital Economics said that that home clearance sales are a big help for first-time buyers (FTB) who have recently found it difficult to get onto housing market because properties have been overvalued.
Her comments come after Countrywide held a clearance event in Glasgow on Saturday, offering homes sold at knock-down prices of up to 40 per cent.
Prospective buyers queued overnight, with the biggest discount being a penthouse flat in Kilmarnock which was originally on the market at £245,000, but sold for £150,000, reports the Guardian.
Ms Shaha said that for anyone who wants to get onto the housing market, home clearance sales are "good news" - which might interest graduates considering mortgages for professionals.
Hometrack's latest house price survey, published in October, reported average property price falls of 7.3 per cent over the previous 12-month period.
