Buy-to-let sector ‘revitalised’
Ian Potter, head of operations at the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla), said small-scale landlords have served the private rented sector well and thereby supported the UK property market.
"Without this backbone, the sector would never have been revitalised and the housing market would be having even more problems," he stated.
His comments come after Professor Rugg presented a report to the government, recommending reforms on licensing and small-scale regulation - findings which Arla supported.
More borrowers took out buy-to-let mortgages in September than in any month over the last year, according to a survey by Spicerhaart Financial Services this week.
Steve Cox, operations director at the firm, said the findings showed that borrowers did not support speculation that the buy-to-let mortgage sector was running its course because of the current economic crisis in the money markets.
