Hips will create ‘greener market’
Melanie Russell, head of communications at UK home improvements firm Anglian, said homebuyers are already beginning to lend more importance to the green credentials of properties.
But when the housing market recovers, environmental issues will return to the top of the agenda for homebuyers, she argued.
The introduction of Hips will add to this trend and make green credentials hugely important to buyers when choosing a property, Ms Russell said.
On the marketing of homes, she added: "When you go to sell the property, you are saying to the potential buyer that this house is as energy efficient as it possibly could be and therefore will be saving you money."
Energy bills in the average UK household would be cut by about £300 a year if basic steps were taken by owners to improve its energy efficiency, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
